The Philosophy of Reading at Belton Elementary School
The philosophy at BES is that instruction is a vital part of the reading puzzle, yet it takes superior instruction linked with a deep love of reading to create a complete picture of a lifelong reader.
We work to create a love of reading by encouraging teachers to be readers themselves by setting their own personal goals, and keeping current with new children's literature in order to direct students to books that will appeal to them. Working with students in small reading groups and individually in order to meet the various needs of all readers is a priority for teachers. We implement programs to celebrate reading all year through our annual One School One Book Program, student book clubs, teacher books clubs, Vocabulary Day, Book Character Dress Up Day, Book Swaps, A Free Little Library located outside our school, and a Panda Post Mail System. Our school Motto is "At BES, we bring our books!" What are you reading?
